چکیده

Orientation flow field is the starting point for feature extraction in various fingerprint algorithms. In recent papers, Jain and his colleagues (Ratha et al., 1995, Karu and Jain, 1995, Ratha et al. 1996) introduced a fundamentally new algorithm. Their main motivation for the algorithm has been to work at the problems from a fingerprint matching point of view. Our aim in contrast has been feature extraction from a dermatoglyphic point of view. Thus, we are not only interested in classification of the fingerprints but also other features such as ridge counts (number of ridges between any two points, say core points and tri-radius) and the average width of ridges in a region of fingerprint (see Loesch, 1983). Our end product is calculation of quantitative features rather than identification. Again, manual calculations of such quantities is a highly tedious task. We use some advanced techniques of spatial statistics, directional data analysis and Bayesian image analysis to obtain the orientation field. The algorithm is used to extract various features of interest from fingerprints.

Comparison of Some Qualitative and Quantitative Dermatoglyphic Patterns of Palm and Finger Tips Between Cleft Lip/Palate and Healthy Individuals in Bojnurd

Purpose: To provide a comprehensive and precise research for population studies on the association of dermatoglyphic patterns on cleft lip/palate deficits. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control observational study that conducted in North Khorasan on 1386. Using a simple random sampling individuals with cleft/lip palate were allocated to case group and their matched health cases were co...

Segmentation of Scanned Maps in Uniform Color Spaces

An important aspect of GIS operation is acquisition of spatial data from different types of maps. In principal, this may be done using image processing techniques. Especially for color printed topographic maps, a powerful segmentation algorithm is needed to separate the information layers; In this paper, a new color segmentation algorithm is presented, which is based on the uniform CIE-L*u*v* c...

Ridgecounter: a program for obtaining semi-automated finger ridge counts.

Finger ridge count is a valuable quantitative phenotype used in a wide range of biological and anthropological research. However, the scoring of the phenotype is both labour intensive and error prone. This paper describe a freely available software program, RIDGECOUNTER, that can be used to obtain ridge counts from digitized prints (either collected using a digital fingerprint scanner or scanne...

A Novel Apporch for Human Identification through Fingerprints

Fingerprint system is an important biometric technique for personal identification. The metric used for performance of identification techniques are directly scanned fingerprints or inked impression of fingerprints. The purpose is real-time, high confidence recognition of a person's identity by mathematical analysis of the random patterns that are visible within the finger prints from some dist...

A FILTERED B-SPLINE MODEL OF SCANNED DIGITAL IMAGES

We present an approach for modeling and filtering digitally scanned images. The digital contour of an image is segmented to identify the linear segments, the nonlinear segments and critical corners. The nonlinear segments are modeled by B-splines. To remove the contour noise, we propose a weighted least q m s model to account for both the fitness of the splines as well as their approximate cur...
